Spalio 31 d., 19 val., Kauno LUNI kviečia į POST galeriją (Laisvės al. 51a, 4 aukštas), kur vyks Afrikos Renesanso aktyvisto Mawunos Koutonino paskaita "The Scarcity Mentality". Paskaita vyks anglų kalba, jei reikės, bus improvizuotai verčiama į lietuvių kalbą.

Renginys Facebook'e

On the 31 of October, at 7 PM, LUNI Kaunas cordially invites all to POST gallery (Laisvės al. 51a, 4th floor), where Mawuna Koutonin, an activist for African Rennaisance, will give a lecture on "The Scarcity Mentality". Lecture will be held in English, with improvised translation to Lithuanian, if necessary.

According to Koutonin, the differences between African and European cultures could be explained by two mentalities that most inhabitants adhere to: that of abundance and of scarcity: "In tropical Africa, nature is abundant. Like they say in Cameroon, you throw a grain on the ground, you come back the next day to find food. People never have to worry about what to eat, and more importantly there is no reason why to worry about the future, because nature is abundant, and centuries of life in harmony with that nature built an absolute certainty into people mind that whatever ever happen future will provide for itself.

In contrary, if you are an inhabitant of a country like Finland or Holland, you can not rely on nature to provide. You have barely 6 month to work hard and diligently extract and store enough food for your family, for heating during the harsh winters. People have to prepare for the future. People have to save for rainy day. Resources are scarce, and unpredictably.

Nowadays, most Europeans still are operating from the scarcity mentality, regardless of the wealth they have accumulated over the centuries. They still are insecure, and worried they could lose all that wealth and become poor again. They still think predation and looting of other nations is the only way to maintain their wealth."

Mawuna Koutonin is the founder of consulting firm Koutonin Inc. and blog siliconafrica.com, as well as the chairman of Turtle Awards foundation, a nonprofit that promotes ideas of sustainable development of Africa. Koutonin has a Master’s degree in Philosophy and a Post Master’s degree in Business Administration. His ultimate dream is to open a world-class human potential development school in Africa in 2017.
